​About Doris Hairston

​Doris is a native of New Jersey who, after completing her college education and getting married, relocated to Montgomery County, Maryland. Her passion for working with children began with promoting the importance of reading, inspiring her to help children write and create their own books. This initiative naturally evolved into literacy performances, which have since grown into interactive storytelling sessions featuring children’s books. In these engaging activities, children collaborate to develop, construct props, and bring story characters to life.

In 2020, just before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Doris founded Community Helpers. While the pandemic significantly slowed the organization’s progress, the group—now known as Dakota’s Faith Journey—has gradually resumed activities and performances throughout the community. After relocating to Prince George’s County a few years ago, Doris is excited to see Dakota’s Faith Journey begin anew and continue its mission.

Doris holds a master’s degree in early childhood education and a Bachelor of Arts/Special Education degree in Elementary Education from Grand Canyon University, as well as an associate’s degree in early childhood education from Salem Community College. She is currently continuing her educational studies at George Mason University.
